50 years

Cavotec has supplied MoorMaster™ automated mooring systems for a wide variety of Ro/Ro and ferry applications that reduce mooring times, thereby allowing more time for passenger and vehicles boarding and disembarking, or lower cruising speeds.

Shorter mooring times reduce fuel consumption as well as air pollution and noise at terminals, which are often located close to city centres. At berths subject to challenging tidal and weather conditions, and where space for conventional mooring is restricted, Cavotec automated mooring ensures safe and reliable operations, eliminating dangerous rope handling activities.

And now new MoorMaster NxG offers even faster installation, easier maintenance and a sleek design that fits on virtually any berth and in any public environment.

Discover new MoorMaster NxG now.

Benefits

  • Moor vessels in 30 seconds, detach in 10 seconds.
  • Fuel savings due to reduced use of thrusters during port stays, and potentially reduced cruise speeds.
  • Reduced emissions improve air quality in and around terminals. Improved personnel safety and reduced onboard labour requirement.
  • Reduced maintenance costs linked to mooring lines, winches and hull paint and coatings.
  • Reduced fender and seabed maintenance. Reduced infrastructure costs due to shorter quays and/or fewer dolphins.
  • Reliable system, operating in extreme environmental conditions.

Environmental Impact

Rapid mooring and release let the vessel shut down its engines faster in port, reducing harmful emissions. Every minute saved in port also increases the amount of time that ships can spend at sea, making it possible for ships to cruise at lower speeds, which saves fuel and further reduces emissions.

A tool developed by DNV GL Maritime Advisory estimates that the four MoorMaster™ systems in Helsinki and Tallinn can reduce carbon emissions by as much as 24,000 tonnes a year and harmful nitrogen oxide emissions by some 300 tonnes.

Testimonials

SeaRoad

"It’s been a long journey with the MoorMaster systems and Cavotec, 17 years. I can say they have been extremely consistent over the time and Cavotec’s support for the systems has been exemplary"
General Manager Marine, SeaRoad

Port of Helsinki

"Those extra minutes that you save in mooring and unmooring operations leads the vessel to be able to go a little bit slower overseas which reduces in turn the fuel burn and therefore lowers emissions. Actually by quite a lot."
Head of Sustainability, Port of Helsinki
